OMEGA as the Official Time Keeper at Beijing Olympics

August, 2008

Omega, the official time-keeper at the Beyjing Olympics, hosted Bonnie and Erik Halfacre at this historical event mid August this year. The sight of the city was breath taking, and due to diligent efforts by the government, the Olympic city shone under bright blue skies. Under the kind hospitality of Omega's Gregory Swift, their guests, had the opportunity to watch a number of athletic competitions such as the men's 100 meter dash (a new world record), women's gymnastics and table tennis, a very popular sport among the Chinese people. Visiting the local museum was awe inspiring with the display of intricate models of the some of the Olympic structures, such as the 'Birds Nest', and the Aquatics structure, and miniature replicas of the city of Beyjing. One of the couples' most exciting experiences was a visit to the 4,000 mile long 'Great Wall of China', one of the Great Wonders of the World. The opportunity to walk a small section of the Wall was overwhelming by its sheer grandeur. The evenings included experiences in Chinese culture, such as ceremonial dances, with mask-clad figures, experimenting with Chinese cuisine, visiting the finely manicured city gardens and just enjoying the tremendous hospitality extended to them by the people of China.
